Muay Thai as a modern combat sport was first formalized in early 20th centry. Influenced by British boxing, the sport was codified and began taking place in a boxing ring replacing hand wrappings with boxing gloves.

Muay Thai known as “The Art of the 8 Limbs” is a stand-up striking sport, with two competitors throwing punches, elbows, knees and kicks. Clinching, sweeps and throws are also allowed.

Derek Tranchito is the instructor of the Muay Thai Class. At a very young age Derek was fascinated with martial arts. He began training in Taekwondo and boxing at the age of 8. Shortly after Derek had dedicated himself to boxing until he discovered Muay Thai. With his first experience he was immediately hooked and his life became Muay Thai. At the age of 21, Derek moved to Thailand which would become the hardest and most rewarding time of his life. Upon his return to the US, Derek begun coaching Muay Thai, boxing and MMA.
